    Boston

The Amtrak is the way to travel to Boston. Penn station is like an underground airport and was very efficient at getting us on the train and on our way! We were on the standard train heading there and it took just 4 hours to arrive in Boston. Super comfy seats and plenty of leg room!

We are so lucky to be spending our time in Boston with Ali and John (James’ parents). Parking up at The Holiday Inn is an ideal spot for the next couple of days as it’s close to the train station.

    Top Tip:

wow traffic strikes again. We Ubered from the station and it took a good hour. Once again highly recommend using the train for a quick 15 minute trip.

Since James did such a fantastic job being tour guide in NYC he was trusted with leading our two day tour of Boston. Nu Kitchen 8/10 🌟was the ideal breakfast to start our busy walking day with delicious smoothie bowls and wraps that kept us fuelled. First stop was Faneuil Hall Market Place. Plenty of food options and tourist shops. Walking down Washington Street provides more opportunity for shopping with the added bonus of historic buildings to marvel at.

Lunch at Fin’s Japanese Sushi was an 8/10 🌟for James, with very fresh and generous servings. Warning there is spice! Mine was a little too spicy. We walked through the Boston Public Garden and Boston Common to the start of the Freedom Trail. You can really feel the history of this city not only with the vast array of strong standing buildings, but also with the cemeteries dotted around most dating right back to 1600’s.

    Top Tip:

watch out for the squirrels! They are quite friendly.

    Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail is awesome! A red line directs you along the 4km path leading you to see all of the historic sites Boston has to offer. Of course along the way you must stop at a little (and very old) pub for a refreshment. After walking across the North Washington Bridge we finished at Bunker Hill Monument.

Our obsession with Wholefoods continues. After a big day of walking we were all very keen for dinner at our hotel. And WOW their salad selection had everything you could every dream of! So fresh and delicious.

    Jimmy’s Tours Day Two

We were all very keen to explore Harvard. What I didn’t realise is it’s like a small town! The selection of healthy and fresh food joints in the US is unreal! Be. Good was the breakfast spot. A solid 7-10 ⭐️.

Harvard campus is immaculate. The gardens are beautiful and all the buildings really take you back in time. You can tell the students really value and respect this place, something many of us can learn from. John was very excited to see the Harvard Law School!

The Harvard Natural History Museum was a hidden gem for me. I really didn’t realise the significance of this College as they really do have everything! I could not believe the selection of animals, insects, plants, crystals and even climate change awareness! There were authentic collections of fossils from the Moa, Siberian Tiger, dinosaurs… you name it Harvard had it!! My favourite was the glass flowers. These were all hand made collections of plants and flowers all made for Harvard. These are over 100 years old and the detail and fascinating cross sections really were stunning.

I’m not even embarrassed to say our obsession for Wholefoods continues. A picnic lunch was the end of Jimmy’s tours.

After a few hours of relaxing we caught the train to Back Bay for dinner. The Elephant Walk is a Cambodian place about 10 minutes walk from the station. Once again, James’ pick was spot on as the food was suburb. A few starters to begin with before finishing the great day of food with our entrees (that’s what they call mains). 9.5/10 💫as the flavors and variety were simply divine. They even cater to dietary requirements which is always an added bonus!

The trip from NYC to Boston is well worth it. It’s a refreshing break from the city to step back in time offers a great learning experience of American History.
