  • The Bolivian Desert

We had a little sleep in and woke around 7:00am. After breakfast we walked through the village of Villa Mar. Small brick buildings are plotted around the town square. It was interesting as all the older women dress in a more traditional way with little skirts, stockings and sanders, while the younger generation wear western attire.

Hernam told us that we needed to use our imagination whilst visiting the rock formations. So our first creative challenge was Copa del Mundo, meaning cup of the world. This is in relation to the football World Cup. Our French friends were happy to see this! These rock formations have taken over a billion years to form. The Italia rocks were amazing to drive through. James and his French friends were very brave and climbed to the top where they got a beautiful view

Lamas are a domestic animal. Their ribbons around the neck or pierced ears is a sign of who owns them. Their wool is super warm and they are protected….not consumed.

    The Vinto and Catal Lagoons

Had an hour and a half to walk around the black lagoon. Lunch was at a small little village.

    Anaconda Canyon

This was very very high and quite scary to walk out towards the point. I had to hold James’ hand to get him there safely!

Great to end the day at the beer stop in Julaca.

This is where the train from uyuni to Chile goes for the salt!
A massive day of driving through spectacular scenery! James and I have claimed the back seats of the land cruiser.

We stayed at Colcha K in hotel du salt. All the walls were made with salt, and it felt much warmer. A small little town which is very close to the salar de uyuni. We slept at 3,600m.
