After a full on travel day we were happy to arrive in NYC late afternoon. We are super lucky to have family in Brooklyn to stay with. Not only do we have incredible accommodation but our hosts put on a divine feast to welcome us. Cannot even begin to describe how much of a relief it was to know we were eating great produce cooked with love!
Lisa (my aunty) was head tour guide on day one. We travelled to Dumbo by the infamous subway, which was super easy and quick! The Brooklyn flea markets were very funky and I probably could have spent the whole morning rummaging through all the vintage clothes, accessories and home wares. But we had much better things to see!
Governor’s Island
After walking under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges we made it to pier 6 to catch the ferry to Governors Island. This is a historic army base and was operational from 1700’s right through to the 1960’s. The buildings are amazing and you really do feel as though your stepping back in time. However there is plenty to draw you back into the present with all of the food stalls and restaurants to enjoy.

Top Tip:
this is a great view over Manhattan and also you get a great view of the iconic Lady Liberty!
After a very big walking day we had another delicious home cooked meal and then took a stroll through Prospect Park just to add to our daily steps!
