Puglia: Part Four

Friday

Lecce is a good hour and a half from Ostuni. We spent the morning there exploring the Roman ruins which are situated in the town square. Plenty of little stores to enjoy…..especially really stunning boutiques.

Lunch was at Otranto which is a further 40 minutes from Lecce. Classe 80 was my very first 10/10 meal with the yummiest tuna salad! 💫💫💫

It was a busy day of driving, so to break it up and work off som of that lunch we found a beach to cool off in. If you are wanting to spend that day at the beach, the beach clubs here are early good with deck chairs and changing facilities.

Saturday

It was moving day! So everyone was up early and getting ready for our next adventure. We all had to split our separate ways till check in was ready at our new place. Jeremy, Emma and myself went to the markets in Ostuni………the food was endless and we enjoyed a picnic afterwards.

Ali and John have very generously and kindly organised all of the accommodation for our family holiday, and they have selected incredible places! We moved onto Ceglie Messapica which is about 20 minutes from Ostuni.

Matera

On Sunday we travelled to Matera which is a good hour and a half drive. Emma, Jeremy, James and myself left bright and early so we could walk around before the heat of the day. Of course on arrival the key is to search for good coffee and we certainly found that at Ai Maestri!

Really really loved this town. Every single street has character and charm making you feel as though you are in a movie set. The latest obsession is to have a picnic which we enjoyed for breakfast with a view! After really exploring and sweating for a few hours we had the appetite for pizza before we headed back to the pool for the afternoon.

Matera is the oldest town which has had people consistently living in the area. The history is unbelievable! My favourite town so far in Italy.

We came home and had a great BBQ cooked on coals by John, James and Luccho!

Final celebration with the Famila

Monday was a day lounging by the pool with our family and friends Taylor and Matt. To celebrate our final night with the family at Cibus. A really special dinner with lovely Italian food. It was the perfect way to end our time with everyone, we feel incredibly lucky that Ali and John organised this and have loved every minute of exploring Italy with family. It really does make you treasure the memories.

Polignano a Mare

After saying goodbye to everyone we begin our next adventure with Jeremy and Emma. Polignano a Mare was the ideal town to spend the day eating and swimming. It made it even better to have Taylor and Matt join us!

Pescaria is the best sandwich stop. We made it just in time as the line travels out the door! The old town is great to wander through to stop for a drink and take in the views. It might not look like this in the photo, but the water was hectic with really strong and choppy waves! The rocks made it a challenge to get in safely…… the laughing definitely didn’t help either as our limbs were flying in different directions.

A gelato to cleanse the copious amount of salt water was needed. Martinucci had a range of sweet and fruity flavours (even vegan options).
